What other Researchers Never Answer - 3

SUN's POSITION AND WHAT IT SAYS

Sun was in Rohini Star, Rishaba rasi during the amavasya of Vyasa Dhritarashtra meet before war.

Sun's position during Amavasya indicates what was the month's name was.

In Mahabharat, before war on an Amavasya, Vyasa explains the positions of Grahas and what they are indicating.

Seven days before Karna talks with Krishna he also mentions the graha positions.

The Mahabharata Researchers should try to convince Saying SUN was in Jyeshta Star of Vrischika Zodiac Sign quoting this Shloka.

Source: Udyoga parva, Chapter 140, Verse 18

18   saptamāc cāpi divasād amāvāsyā bhaviṣyati

saṃgrāmaṃ yojayet tatra tāṃ hy āhuḥ śakra devatām

Seven days after, will be the day of the New-Moon. Let the battle commence then, for that day, it hath been said, is presided over by Indra.

After the peace talks failed, Krishna returned to Upaplavya. In his Chariot, Karna also accompanied him and they had a discussion. During that time, Krishna said to Karna, “Seven days after, will be the day of the New-Moon. Let the battle commence then, for that period, it hath been said, is presided over by Indra.”

Here Krishna mentioned a New-Moon day. That would be the last day of the month. He adds attributed to the New-Moon day of the star, which is presided over by Sakra Deva.

Sakra Deva is another name of Indra. Indra born to Atithi on the day of Jyeshta star. That star is named as Jyeshta (Eldest) star, Because Indra was the eldest son born on that star day.

If New-Moon occurs on Jyeshta star day, the month following it would be Margashirsha . Therefore, this is also a direct and important evidence for “War in Margashirsha.

PLEASE NOTE: Here the Star Jyeshta is just an assumption for  "it hath been said, is presided over by Indra.”

Whether what mentioned there was "Star Jyeshta", or "month Jyeshta" or the "Ritu Varsha" is upto the reader's interpretation.

But actually there are two places Vyasa mentions the Sun's Position.

1. When Krishna returned from Hastinapur after Peace talks failed, Karna accompanied him for some distance. During that time, Karna detailed about few planetary positions and their effects. In that he says about Rahu as following

Source: Udyoga parva, Chapter 141, Verses 10

10  somasya lakṣma vyāvṛttaṃ rāhur arkam upeṣyati
divaś colkāḥ patanty etāḥ sanirghātāḥ sakampanāḥ

The spot on the lunar disc hath changed its position; and Rahu approaches towards the sun. Meteors are falling from the sky with loud noise and trembling motion.

2. In the beginning of Bhishma parva Sage Vyasa met with Dhritarashtra and offered to grant sacred vision to view the battle. However, Dhritarashtra requested that time to give the vision to Sanjaya. That time Sage Vyasa detailed about few planetary positions and their effects to Dhritarashtra. In that he says about Rahu as following

Source: Bhishma Parva, Chapter 3, Verses 11

11  abhīkṣṇaṃ kampate bhūmir arkaṃ rāhus tathāgrasat
śveto grahas tathā citrāṃ samatikramya tiṣṭhati

The Earth is frequently trembling, and Rahu approaches towards the sun. The white planet (Venus) vision, having passed beyond the constellation Chitra.

Both the places it was mentioned Rahu is approaching the Sun.

There was one place SUN's position was told.

The Kisari Mohan Ganguli's translation has it

The Black planet (Ketu), blazing up like fire mixed with smoke, stayeth, having attacked the bright constellation Jyeshtha that is sacred to Indra. The constellation Dhruva, blazing fiercely, wheeleth towards the right. Both the Moon and the Sun are afflicting Rohini. The fierce planet (Rahu) hath taken up its position between the constellations Chitra and Swati.

But the Shloka for the same is

15 śyāmo grahaḥ prajvalitaḥ sa dhūmaḥ saha pāvakaḥ
aindraṃ tejasvi nakṣatraṃ jyeṣṭhām ākramya tiṣṭhati
16 dhruvaḥ prajvalito ghoram apasavyaṃ pravartate
citrā svāty antare caiva dhiṣṭhitaḥ paruṣo grahaḥ

To verify the same I checked the other famous translation of Kumbakonam in Tamil

There also it mentions Rahu Afflicting Sun, Moon and Rohini star is mentioned. This makes clear the Shloka 16 was three lines and third line was intentionally removed. The translations of various people has Rohini, Sun and Moon mentioned but in critical edition it is removed.

So what, Vyasa have mentioned more details.

15 śyāmo grahaḥ prajvalitaḥ sa dhūmaḥ saha pāvakaḥ
aindraṃ tejasvi nakṣatraṃ jyeṣṭhām ākramya tiṣṭhati

The Black planet (Ketu), blazing up like fire mixed with smoke, stayeth, having attacked the bright constellation Jyeshta that is sacred to Indra.

Always Ketu, the black-smoky shadow planet will be always at 180 degree of Rahu. Ketu's position was mentioned as It is in Jyeshta star clearly. So Rahu should be in Rohini.

Rahu approaching Sun and moon means Sun and Moon Should be in Rohini. That is the Rishaba Rasi.. Indicated Month of Vaisakha.

Sun position Indicated by Mars

When Krishna returned from Hastinapur after Peace talks failed, Karna accompanied him for some distance. During that time, Karna detailed about Mars's retrogression.

Source: Udyoga parva, Chapter 141, Verses 7-10

8    kṛtvā cāṅgārako vakraṃ jyeṣṭhāyāṃ madhusūdana
           anurādhāṃ prārthayate maitraṃ saṃśamayann iva

The planet Angaraka (Mars), wheeling, O slayer of Madhu, towards the constellation Jyeshta, approaches towards Anuradha, indicating a great slaughter of friends. Without doubt.

9.2.1 Retrogression of mars

Earth and Mars are like two cars racing on an oval track. Earth has the inside lane and moves faster than Mars; so much faster, in fact, that it makes two laps around the course in about as much time as it takes Mars to go around once.

About every 26 months, Earth comes up from behind and overtakes Mars. While we are passing by the red planet this year, it will look to us as though Mars is moving up and down. Then, as we move farther along our curved orbit and see the planet from a different angle, the illusion will disappear and we will once again see Mars move in a straight line. This apparent erratic movement is called "retrograde motion”.

As explained in the below diagram Mars retrogression has 6 Phases.

  1. Phase 1 (Points a-b): Mars enters in retrogression motion, starting slowing down in the zodiac constellation in its forward motion.
  2. Phase 2 (Points b-c): Mars slows down very much it very rarely moves forward and attains  stand still.
  3. Phase 3 (Points c-d): Mars starts its backward journey and rapidly goes back.
  4. Phase 4 (Points d-e): Mars starting slowing down in its backward motion and attains  stand still.
  5. Phase 5 (Points e-f): Mars starts its forward journey and rapidly moves forward
  6. Phase 6 (Points f-g): March comes out of retrogression as gets into its normal pace in the zodiac transit.

All the six phases takes 6 to 8 month time to complete. The backward motion would be 58 to 81 days. (Ave. 72 days).

Calculating Mars position

As per Karna’s account, the backward motion of Mars had been started months before. Mars was traversing backward from Anuradha.

Anuradha belongs to Scorpio. Mars will retrograde only when it is spotted opposite to Sun. Hence, Mars retrogression in Scorpio proves Sun is in Taurus. Taurus transit of Sun indicates Vaisakha month.

Sun Position Indicated by Sukra

Source: Bhishma Parva, Chapter 3, Verses 11-17

14  bhāgyaṃ nakṣatram ākramya sūryaputreṇa pīḍyate
śukraḥ proṣṭhapade pūrve samāruhya viśāṃ pate
        uttare tu parikramya sahitaḥ pratyudīkṣate

The Sun's offspring (Saturn) approaching towards the constellation ruled by Bhaga (Purva Phalguni), afflicts it. The planet Shukra (Venus), ascending towards Purva Bhadra,   and wheeling towards the Uttara Bhadra, looks towards it, having effected a junction (with a smaller planet).

Planet Venus i.e. Shukra will never move away from Sun for more than 48 degrees. This is because Venus is Planet which is in inner ring.

Venus is in Uttarabhadra. Uttarabhadra belongs to Pisces. So Sun could be in Makara, kumba, Meena, Mesha or Rishaba only.

So Rahu-Ketu, Mars and Venus all indicate Sun in Rohini is right position. Sun in Jyeshta(Vrichika) is very wrong.

The researcher may tell stories like Karna was talking about past event etc. Those were simply stories. Though few verses where removed to hide the month was Vaisaka, Rahu-Ketu, Mars and Shukra positions perfectly show that Sun was in Rishaba and the month was Vaisaka
